A 2002 report by the United States Environmental Protection Agency found the following results in a study of microfiber mops: microfiber penetrated surface pores and removed dust particles that conventional mops missed 99% of bacteria were removed (versus 30% with conventional mops!) Consumption of water and chemicals was 95% less The institution which switched to microfiber significantly reduced its labor costs because "microfiber is easier and faster to use" The report highlights a case study in which traditional mops were replaced with microfiber mops for hospital use. Note that Norwex microfibers are significantly finer and more efficient than the ones in the EPA study. Norwex microfibers are 1/100th the thickness of a human hair and hold 20 times their weight of liquid, compared to the study's 1/16th thickness and absorbency of six times their weight.
