Triclosan The majority of liquid antibacterial soaps contain Triclosan as an active ingredient to stop the growth of bacteria and to deodorize. Triclosan, also called Irgasan and Microban, is also contained in toothpaste, soaps, facewash, deodorants and cosmetics. Health Canada has recommended avoiding antibacterial products as they kill good bacteria that fight bad germs and concerns over antibacterial resistance.
